Safe and steady with GRENDiA
What was the challenge?
EPD needed LPG trucks for its newest site in Huntingdon having been impressed by the GRENDiA LPG previously, and needed something that would reduce the wear on the tyres.
Why this product(s)?
GRENDiA has the option of electronic speed control, and this small addition made a huge difference to how the trucks are driven.
What was the outcome?
The new GRENDiA forklift trucks have allowed EPD to save money on tyre replacements and cut fuel consumption.
Spiralling costs
Trucks on EPD’s sites regularly work 12-hour shifts Monday to Friday, carrying a range of loads on and off lorries and vans. The operators were often pulling away in such a manner that the tyres would spin, which was causing accelerated wear and tear. EPD was spending a lot of money replacing tyres and the trucks were using more gas. But the new GRENDiA trucks offered a game-changing feature.
Electronic speed control is an option that offers adjustable speeds, but more importantly for EPD it includes soft power mode, which stops the wheels from spinning so reduces the tyre wear and saves money on maintenance. It even reduces fuel consumption by up to 19 percent.
Encouraging safer operations
EPD now have 15 state-of-the-art 2.5-tonne Mitsubishi GRENDiA ES LPG forklifts across its 2 sites, with Mitsubishi forklift trucks making up half of their entire MHE fleet. Several optional features have been added to all trucks to improve safety, including a load weight indicator and rear blue lights, as the forklift trucks are required for indoor and outdoor work.
The trucks have great specifications which means better safety for our operators. In particular, the fact that the operators can’t spin the wheels means they will have greater control over the truck.
